WordPress 2.6 was due to be released on 20 May but it has been delayed. Though it is expected to be released soon. Like every major release, there are some new features and changes. And you should be prepared for them.
In this post, I will tell you everything you need to know about WordPress 3.6 and the upcoming features and changes.
1. Audio and Video Support
For audio and video, we had to stay dependent on plugins till now. However, with WordPress 3.6, you can upload audio and video files and can embed them into posts easily.
When you upload an audio/video file, you have an option to insert it into post like an image. Here’s how it looks:
2. Auto Save
WordPress has had auto save on server side for quite some time now. However, it has become a lot better in this release. Instead of relying on network(which can be flaky), it saves your posts in browser locally.
So even if your browser crashes or power goes off, your post will remain safe. In case of a crash, you can just reopen the browser and you will see following notice on top of screen:
3. Twenty Thirteen Theme
Twenty Thirteen is the new default theme in WordPress and it looks good.
Compared to previous themes, it is quite colorful and has a personality of its own.
4. Blocking Changes
In previous versions, you were notified if another user was editing current post, but you could not do much. Now, you are presented with an option to “Take Over”. If you click it, other user will be blocked from editing the post.
1. Improved Menus
The menu management has been improved and now, the left side on page can be expanded and hidden as needed.
There’s new tab to manage the placement of menus as well.
2. Post Revisions
I’ve always found Post Revisions feature a bit strange to use. It was just not user friendly.
It has been improved and is easier to use now. You can compare revisions easily using a slider and top now. Take a look:
There are lot of other security fixes as well, but these were the major changes in WordPress 3.6. Are you prepared?
